As of July 4, 2020, we are proud to announce that the Green Point Project has attained the “Orca” (Highest) Certification for Green Shores for Homes! Gratitude and Special Thanks go out to Kelly Loch and Harriet Rueggeberg from Stewardship Centre BC, Dianne Hinkley, Cowichan Tribes and Landscape Architect Victoria Drakeford.
Green Shores for Homes is a volunteer certification program that is critical to rejuvenating our ecosystems and reversing climate change by adopting the following strategies for coastal residential sites:
Preserve and restore physical processes, the natural actions of water and sediment that maintain healthy shorelines. “Immobilizing” bulkheads and rock embankments can disrupt these natural actions.
Preserve and enhance shoreline habitats for both plant and animal communities and for biodiversity.
Prevent or reduce pollution of the aquatic environment.
Reduce cumulative impacts, the small individual effects that add up to large impacts on shoreline environments.
